St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing had its best finishes of the season at Barber Motorsports Park for the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, April 26-27. Scott Hargrove finished second in both races, and Neil Alberico had two top-six finishes.

In the qualifying session for Race One, the Cape duo qualified second (Hargrove) and third (Alberico). When the green flag waved, Hargrove, driving the No. 3, stayed nose-to-tail with leader Spencer Pigot for the entire 20-lap race. They swapped fastest lap but in the end Hargrove settled for second place, finishing just 1.6111 seconds behind the leader. Alberio, driving the No. 2 machine, started third and battled his way through the race and recovered after having to lock up his brakes to avoid contact. He finished fifth.

In Race Two, Hargrove started from the pole position with Alberico starting third. On the first lap, Pigot got the jump on Hargrove and took the lead. After a second-lap restart, Hargrove almost overtook him but was ultimately unable. Much like Race One, the two battled for fastest lap, and Hargrove finished second. Alberico also had a solid race. Starting third, he finished sixth.

“It’s only a matter of time now before one of our drivers is standing atop the podium,” said team co-owner Nicholas Cape. “Overall it was a good weekend, and we collected the points we need to stay in contention. Our crew has been incredible over the last few weeks pushing to the max, at the shop and at the track. It makes us very proud to see their dedication so a huge thanks to them.”

After the first four rounds, Hargrove is tied for second in the point standings. He trails Pigot 130-89. Alberico is sixth with 64 points, and only five points from fifth position.  Cape Motorsports is second in the team point standings.

The team and drivers will next be on track May 9-10 at the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit, a 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course.
