THE LUCK OF THE IRISH PRODUCES A CANADIAN HAT TRICK
AS DEMPSEY WINS THIRD
CONSECUTIVE RACE WITH
A YELLOW-FLAG VICTORY AT THE MOSPORT
Mosport, Canada (Aug. 23) – Irishman Peter
Dempsey completed a Canadian hat trick,'
winning this afternoon's Round 8 of the Star
Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear.
Dempsey, driving the #21 Andersen Racing /
LotusWorks/ Allied Building Products Mazda, also
won last weekend at Trois Rivieres and the
weekend before that at Road America, becoming
the first driver this season to win three races.
Finishing second at Mosport was Joel Miller in the #20 JDC Motorsports / Mazda / K&N Air
Filters Mazda, followed by Tom Gladdis in the #5 Andersen Racing / Marrache & Co. / Allied
Building Products Mazda. The Expert Series winner was Chris Cumming, driver of the #16
World Speed Motorsports / Inviro Medical Mazda, while the Gerry Kraut, driving the #55 JDC
Motorsports / Dougherty & Co. / Dougherty Funding LLC Mazda, won the Master Series class.

MISSION 2/3rds ACCOMPLISHED -- EDWARDS ON POLE FOR ROUND 8
OF THE STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE MOBIL1 GRAND PRIX OF MOSPORT
Mosport, Canada (Aug. 23) -- American
John Edwards completed 2/3rds of his
weekend mission by setting the quickest
time in both pre-race practice sessions and
then putting his #7 AIM Autosport Mazda
on the pole with a lap of 1:15.890 (116.648
mph) for the start of this afternoon's
Round 8 of the 2008 Star Mazda
Championship presented by Goodyear at
the Mobil1 Grand Prix of Mosport. Starting on the outside of the front row for the
race will be fellow American Joel Miller with a lap literally a hair slower – 0.081 sec. – in the #20
JDC Motorsports / Mazda / K&N Air Filters Mazda. Starting third on the grid will be the winner
of the last two races in a row, Irishman Peter Dempsey. His lap of 1:16.077 (116.361 mph) in
the #21 Andersen Racing / LotusWorks/ Allied Building Products Mazda was just 0.187 sec. off
the pole time… in fact, the first nine cars in the field were separated by less than one second.

EDWARDS QUICKEST IN BOTH FRIDAY STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP
PRACTICE SESSIONS AT THE MOBIL1 GRAND PRIX OF MOSPORT
American John Edwards, the first two-time
winner in the 2008 Star Mazda
Championship with victories at Miller
Motorsports Park and Portland, turned the
quickest times in both the morning and
afternoon sessions… though rising heat
during the day slowed times for most of
the front runners. Edwards, who is
currently 5th in the 2008 Star Mazda Championship points battle, ran a 1:15.842 (116.722 mph)
in the #7 AIM Autosport Mazda during the muggy morning under slightly overcast skies. In the
afternoon, under sunny skies, he was still fastest, but with a 1:16.247 (116.102 mph).
The driver who made a major leap forward in mastering the technical Mosport track during the
afternoon session was Billy Goshen, driver of the #82 Goshen Motorsports / Merv Griffin
Entertainment / Global Tracking Communications Mazda. He was 8th fast in the morning with a
1:17.179 (114.700 mph), but rose to second on the time sheet in the afternoon by virtue of a
lap at 1:16.577 (115.601). Also moving up, from 6th fast to 3rd with a lap of 1:16.807 (115.255
mph) was series points leader Charles Hall in the #77 Andersen Racing / Blimpie /
AccentBanking.com/ Allied Building Products Mazda. Rounding out the top-5 were Tom Gladdis
and Joel Miller. Gladdis, in the #5 Andersen Racing / Marrache & Co. / Allied Building Products
Mazda was 4th in both sessions, turning a 1:16.865 (115.168 mph), while Miller slipped from
2nd-fast in the morning to 5th in the afternoon with a 1:17.045 (114.899 mph).

Running second-fast, with a lap of 1:16.234 (116.121 mph) in the #20 JDC Motorsports / Mazda / K&N
Air Filters Mazda was Joel Miller, winner of the Star Mazda Championship season-opener at Sebring.
Miller, who is 3rd in the championship battle, the 2007 Skip Barber Pro Series Champion, which won him
his fully-sponsored ride in the Star Mazda Championship courtesy of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports
Driver Development Ladder. Miller drives for JDC Motorsports, the team that won the 2007 Star Mazda
Championship with Dane Cameron, who is now racing in the Atlantic Championship with sponsorship
from the Mazda ladder.
