A DOMINANT PERFROMANCE FROM THE CINCINATTI KID – JOHN EDWARDS CRUISES TO MILLER WIN FROM THE POLE BY 14.5 SECONDS
Joel Miller’s dominant win at the 2008 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season-opener at Sebring seems a distant memory in the heat of the Utah afternoon as newcomer John Edwards and the AIM Autosport team celebrate a clean sweep of Round Two at Miller Motorsports Park with the pole, leading every lap, and a 14.514-second margin of victory over 2nd-place finisher Charles Hall and a 22.136-seconds gap back to Miller in 3rd.
Rounding out the top-5 were Irishman Peter Dempsey, who started 5th and finished 4th in the #21 Andersen Racing/Center Jewellers.ie/Quayside.ie/Allied Mazda and Tom Gladdis who qualified 4th and drove the #5 Andersen Racing/Law firm of Marrache & Co./Allied Mazda to a 5th-place finish.
Combined with the results from the Sebring, Joel Miller continues to lead the driver championship battle with 82 points, Hall is in second with 80, Dempsey is third with 71 and Gladdis is fourth with 64.

UNEXPECTED PROMISE THOROUGHLY FULFILLED – NEWCOMER JOHN EDWARDS WINS POLE FOR STAR MAZDA ROUND TWO AT MILLER
Newcomer John Michael Edwards, the 2007 Atlantic Series racer who joined the 2008 Star Mazda Championship just in time for Round Two at Miller Motorsports Park thoroughly fulfilled the unexpected promise he showed in testing with a pole-winning performance in the #7 AIM Autosport Mazda during Saturday morning qualifying. His lap of 1:43.650 (105.864 mph) was more than 1.5 seconds faster than his best test time and .691 seconds ahead of the 2nd-place qualifier, Sebring winner Joel Miller.
“The AIM team gave me a car so easy to drive that it took hardly any effort to set the pole time,” said Edwards. “I did my pole time on my third lap on a set of brand new tires and immediately pitted to see if anyone could beat it, which they didn’t. So I’ll be starting the race with tires that have only three laps on them, which is a huge advantage. The improved lap times were in part due to the car and in part due to the track being faster with lots of ALMS rubber laid down. It may be a little slower in the heat of the afternoon, but we’re feeling confident of our chances in the race.”

EDWARDS’ MARCH TO THE FRONT HIGHLIGHTS A SEE-SAW
BATTLE FOR
SUPREMACY DURING STAR MAZDA
PRACTICE AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK
Newcomer John Michael Edwards, the 2007 Atlantic Series racer who joined the 2008
Star Mazda Championship just in time for Round Two at Miller Motorsports Park this
weekend, completed his march to the top of the time sheets during the two official
practice sessions on Friday, May 16.
His climb began with a 9th-fast time in the first session of yesterday’s promoter test day,
improving to 6th-fast in the second session and up to 4th in the final session of the
afternoon. In the morning session on Friday, he moved up to 2nd. And, in the final
practice session in the afternoon, under conditions similar to those expected for
tomorrow’s race, he turned the fastest lap of the session, a 1:45.526 (103.982 mph) in
the #7 AIM Autosport Mazda.

A DAY OF WIND, SUN AND SURPRISES AS DRIVERS IN THE STAR MAZDA
CHAMPIONSHIP COMPLETE PROMOTER TEST DAY AT MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK
Round Two of the 2008 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear this
weekend at Miller Motorsports Park began with a windy, sunny and surprising ‘promoter
test day’ on Thursday. Interesting results were the order of the day, some of them
expected, some a total surprise, such as the performance of Irishman Peter Dempsey.
He served notice of his speed with a 3rd-place finish in the season opener at Sebring but
was able to run only a few laps during the series’ two-day test at Miller last week due to
budget constraints. Despite this handicap, he wound up at the top of the time sheets
with a lap of 1:45.045 (104.458 mph) in the #21 Andersen Racing/Allied Mazda.
The occupants of the 2nd- and 3rd-fastest slots were surprising only in that they were
handily at the top of the times during last week’s testing. Rocket Rookie Joel Miller,
winner of the Sebring season-opener and the 2007 Skip Barber Pro Series champion
who won his ride in the #20 JDC Motorsports/MAZDASPEED/K&N Air Filters Mazda
courtesy of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder, was 2nd-fast
(albeit by barely more than a tenth of a second on the high-speed, 3.4-mile Miller
‘perimeter circuit) with a lap of 1:45.166 (104.338 mph). He was followed by Charles
Hall, who was second at both Sebring and the series test in the #77 Andersen Racing /
Pardoes Solicitors/Allied Mazda. Hall turned a lap of 1:45.644 (103.866 mph).

Back to Fast Forward – The drivers of the Star Mazda
Championship presented by Goodyear return to action
this weekend
at Miller Motorsports Park
The unique mix of top-flight open-wheel drivers that make up the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear – with a few new faces thrown in for good measure – go back to their fast-forward battle at this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park. After a two-month hiatus resulting from re-scheduling caused by the unification of Champ Car and the Indy Racing League, Round Two of the 2008 championship will take the green flag at Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday, May 17.
Included in the 30-car mix are racers from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Ireland and Gibraltar, as well as drivers ranging in age from 16 to 64, a father/son team and a brother/sister team. Leading the pack coming in to the Miller weekend is ‘Rocket Rookie’ Joel Miller, the 2007 Skip Barber Pro Series champion and winner of the sponsorship awarded by the MAZDAZPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder to compete in the 2008 Star Mazda Championship.
He went on to confirm his talent with a win -- and a seven-second margin of victory -- in his first-ever Star Mazda race, the season-opener at Sebring in March. Confirming that his performance was no fluke, Miller, the 21 year-old from Hesperia, California, was also comfortably fastest among the top teams and drivers testing at Miller Motorsports Park early last week in his #20 JDC Motorsports/MAZDASPEED/K&N Air Filters Mazda.
